NBA teams with the longest playoff absences

Now that i Sacramento Kings I am officially returned to qualify for the Playoffsafter 16 long years of absence since 2006, it’s time to update the ranking of the teams that have missed the post-season the longest.

The baton has passed from the Californian franchise to the Charlotte Hornets, who “lead” the group with 7 consecutive seasons (including the current one) as Playoffs spectators. Behind them, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who break a four-spring fast this year. Here are the updated top positions:

  • Charlotte Hornets, 2016 (age 7)
  • San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, 2019 (4 years)
  • Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers *2020 (3 years)

* the Pacers are still not arithmetically excluded from the 2023 Playoffs, but quasi.

What, on the other hand, are the abstinences that lasted longest in the history of the league? The one just concluded by the Kings is at the top of the standings, with only a one-year margin on Los Angeles Clippers between the 70s and 90s. And after them, here’s who made it to a full decade at least without a postseason:

  • Sacramento Kings, 2007-2023 (age 16)
  • Los Angeles Clippers, 1977-1992 (15 anni)
  • Minnesota Timberwolves, 2005-2018 (13 years)
  • Golden State Warriors, 1995-2007 (age 12)
  • Baltimore Bullets, 1954-1965 (11 years)
  • Phoenix Suns, 2011-2021 (10 years)
  • Dallas Mavericks, 1991-2001 (10 years)
