Miedler/Norrie give up in Indian Wells

The joint appearance of Lucas Miedler and Cameron Norrie ends at the ATP 1000 tournament in Indian Wells in the doubles competition in the round of 16 – but without having come onto the pitch.

Before the second match with the 26-year-old from Lower Austria against the two Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovovalov, Norrie gives early where

The reason for the 27-year-old Englishman’s resignation is his previous individual match: The world number twelfth previously forced the Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel only after 2:41 hours with 6: 7 (5), 7: 5, 6: 2 in the knees and then no longer feels fit enough to also contest the doubles.

Miedler overtakes Erler in the double ranking

Despite the early retirement, Miedler can be satisfied with his ATP 1000 premiere. In the first round, Miedler/Norria prevailed against Hugo Nys/Jan Zielinski (MON/POL), with which they each secured 90 world ranking points and a total of 33,460 US dollars in prize money.

In the doubles ranking, Miedler will overtake his standard partner Alex Erler in the coming week and move up three places to rank 40, one position ahead of the Tyrolean.

Miedler competed with Norrie in Indian Wells, since the joint ranking did not work out for Erler/Miedler. The two of them may start at the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami next week. It would be the first joint appearance of the ÖTV duo at a 1000 event.
