OneSight EssilorLuxottica Italia Foundation’s “Days of Sight” Project Returns to Pescara For Second Year

PESCARA – The “Days of Sight” project of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Italia Foundation arrives in Pescara for the second time, which aims to offer sustainable access to eye exams to disadvantaged people. The project, sponsored by the Municipality of Pescara, the Chamber of Deputies, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, in collaboration with the G.D’Annunzio University of Chieti – Pescara, will take place from 8 to 17 May at the Aurum Center, Largo Gardone Riviera.

The Foundation will carry out eye exams for vulnerable people free of charge, donating eyeglasses to those in need. The initiative is aimed at vulnerable people identified by the associations involved in the project and, given its strong social impact, was inaugurated in the presence of the President of the Abruzzo RegionMarcus Marsilius; of the Magnificent Rector of the Gabriele D’Annunzio University of Chieti – Pescara, Liborio Stuppia and the Regional Health Councilor, Nicoletta Verì.

A complete eye clinic, set up thanks to the technical equipment donated by Essilor for the occasion, in which – with the precious support of the Caritas Diocesana Pescara-Penne association – over 600 people will be visited by the team of ophthalmologists and orthoptists coordinated by the Professor Leonardo Mastropasqua, Director of the National High Technology Center of Chieti – Pescara (CNAT).

Immediately after the medical examination, the opticians of GrandVision and Salmoiraghi & Viganò will identify the best vision solution based on the prescription.

The EssilorLuxottica volunteers from the Città Sant’Angelo plant will facilitate the flow of eye exams and the choice of glasses model and each of them will participate in the activity by donating a day of leave.

The Pescara stage is configured as a special stage as the Aurum Center was today also the scene of another important project of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation: the Judo Academy, a sports initiative created in collaboration with Fispic – Italian Paralympic Sports Federation for the Visually Impaired and the Blind . In fact, in the courtyard of the Aurum, a demonstration with a strong emotional impact was held by visually impaired and blind judo athletes, in order to anticipate the real Academy which will be held next weekend: 11 and 12 May, at the gym Palauda located in Via dei Vestini – Chieti (CH). TO

in fact, the last stage of the Judo Academy program will take place, a sports training project through which, not being able to act directly on the visual health of the people involved, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Italia Foundation aims to contribute to improving their social integration through sporting activity. It is a virtuous synergy that is aimed at vulnerable people and translates into the opportunity to practice sport despite blindness or serious visual problems, offering, at the same time, a path to individual health and well-being and social inclusion. During the sporting matches, in addition to the athletes’ sporting preparation, demonstration academies are planned which are open to all visually impaired and blind people wishing to explore the world of Judo. At the end of the last day, HumanWare, a company of the EssilorLuxottica Group specializing in intuitive and intelligent solutions for people with vision defects, will organize a competition among the participants, and the winners will have the opportunity to receive special devices.

During the inauguration there will be sports demonstrations among visually impaired athletes, assisted by EssilorLuxottica volunteers. Many, therefore, are the subjects involved in the stage of the Abruzzo capital, which for the second year proves to be close to social initiatives:

“It is a pleasure and an honor to be alongside the Onesight Essilorluxottica Italia Foundation for the creation of the 2024 Sight Days, an event which has the full support of the Municipality of Pescara due to the enormous social value it has – states the Mayor Avv. Carlo Masci. Precious and fundamental prevention for each of us is guaranteed to everyone thanks to the commitment of the professionals that the Foundation makes available for these days, allowing less well-off people to take care of their eyes, not to neglect them, perhaps even to discover and solve unknown problems. It is extraordinary, then, that through Sight Days a pair of glasses is given to those in need: a huge gift from an economic point of view but also from a health point of view because through this gift it is possible to avoid any future problems at the level of visual impairment. Social issues are particularly close to our hearts, we have not only said it in these five years but also demonstrated it with facts with a myriad of initiatives: our Social Plan in fact provides 78 services (18 million euros per year) and it is no coincidence our slogan is “We leave no one behind”. And on this occasion too we decided to be there, as a municipality.”

“The most important element for the success of initiatives like ours is being able to network with the territory and for this reason, with enthusiasm, we renew and strengthen the solidarity organization dedicated to sight achieved in Abruzzo” – states Andrea Rendina, General Secretary of the OneSight Essilor Luxottica Italia Foundation. “I would like to thank the Municipality of Pescara, the medical staff of Prof. Mastropasqua, FISPIC and the many EssilorLuxottica volunteers at the Barberini factory for their fundamental commitment so that more and more people can see better and live better.”

“This initiative, aimed at vulnerable and economically needy people, assisted by national and local third sector associations, consists of carrying out free visits to adults and children and, in the case of diagnosis of visual defects, prescribed glasses will be donated. Particular attention will also be paid to children who will, in any case, be given sunglasses as gifts. I therefore agree – he continues – with this initiative which I consider absolutely remarkable”. These are the words of Professor Leonardo Mastropasqua, Director of the National High Technology Center of Chieti – Pescara (CNAT).

“We are happy to continue the Judo Academy journey this year too and proud of the collaboration with OneSight Essilor Luxottica. The 2023 initiatives have been hugely successful. Organizing high-level events throughout Italy is essential to guarantee the best preparation for our athletes in view of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, promote the practice of Judo by involving many young people and identify new talents” – states the president of Fispic, Sandro Di Girolamo.

“We renew a wonderful collaboration for the territory – explains Corrado De Dominicis, director of the diocesan Caritas of Pescara-Penne – we come from the great success of last year in which around 600 visits were made and we delivered as many glasses to people who would have had no other possibility to take care of your eyesight. A virtuous circle which is also a moment of prevention as well as cure.
