Daniil Medvedev continues to make up ground in the ATP ranking

Daniil Medvedev is catching up step by step in the ATP world rankings. After the Russian was still in a weak twelfth place at the end of January and the beginning of February, he was able to fight his way back up to sixth place with consecutive triumphs in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai. Currently, the Muscovite is only 20 points short of catching up with Taylor Fritz, who is currently fifth.

Dubai final opponent Novak Djokovic of course continues to claim his place on the throne – first pursuer Carlos Alcaraz is lurking 380 points behind in second place. It remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will be able to profit from Djokovic’s non-participation in Indian Wells, as the 19-year-old is still suffering from the acute injury to his hamstring.

Career Best Rune

Holger Rune is also on the up this week. The Danish Acapulco semi-finalist climbed two places to eighth place and thus holds his personal best in the ATP ranking. And Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev also seems to have stabilized again. The Hamburg player, who was also able to advance to the semi-finals at the hard court tournament in Doha, made a gratifying leap from 14th to 12th place.

It should be well known that the South American sand court swing did not go as planned for Austria’s top player Dominic Thiem. The sobering result is the renewed fall from the top 100 of the men’s ranking. The Lichtenwörther is currently in position 102. Of course, there are no points for Thiem to defend in Indian Wells – another opportunity for the US Open champion of 2020 to make up ground in the men’s rankings.

Here is the current ATP world ranking.
