Lazio surprises Napoli and takes second place in the standings

Lazio Rome won this Friday evening in Naples (0-1) on behalf of the 25th day of Serie A and climbed to second place.

Lazio Rome surprised Friday night by winning 1-0 at leaders Naples, to temporarily climb to second place in the Italian Championship, in the opening match of the 25th day.

Naples, which remained on eight victories in a row in Serie A, thus lost its second match of the season in the league but nevertheless retained a comfortable lead of seventeen points over its new runner-up and opponent of the day. Lazio is performing an excellent operation in the race for the Champions League, and is ahead of Inter (3rd) and AC Milan (4th) by one length. Inter receives Lecce (15th) on Sunday and Milan plays in Florence against Fiorentina (12th) on Saturday. At the Diego-Maradona stadium, Lazio created the first big chance of the match in the 5th minute, when a header from Uruguayan Matías Vecino, from a free kick by Luis Alberto, was diverted on his line by the Neapolitan captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Osimhen hits the crossbar

The goal of the match was scored in the 67th, by Vecino with a very pure shot at the entrance to the area, on a hazardous full-axis head clearance from the Georgian of Naples Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Napoli nearly equalized in the 79th minute when their striker Victor Osimhen hit the crossbar with a header. The Nigerian didn’t score on Friday but still leads the scoring charts with 19 goals, ahead of Inter’s Argentine, Lautaro Martinez. In added time Sergej Milinkovic-Savic almost doubled the score for Lazio, on a direct free kick which found the stop of Alex Meret’s goal (90 + 1).
