Under the aegis of the Beninese Federation of Baseball and Softball (Fbbs), the Cotonou League of Baseball and Softball organized the championship of the U-9 to U-12 category, called Major Division. This made it possible to know the team that will represent Benin in the regional competition in Nigeria. Thus, after a double confrontation against Real Baseball, it was the Galaxy Baseball Academy team that confirmed its supremacy by winning 6-4 and 7-2 respectively. It was Saturday March 25 and Sunday March 26 at Ceg Nokoué in Cotonou.
After its great success against Black Stars (13-02) last Saturday, March 18, the Galaxy Baseball Academy team confirmed its supremacy, and by extension, all the good that was said about it. In a double confrontation last weekend, Galaxy Baseball Academy beat its counterpart Real baseball (6-4) then (7-2) in the round trip. A double success which allows the formation of Galaxy Baseball Academy to validate its ticket for the West African championship of the small League in Nigeria. A competition which will take place from April 11 to 17, 2023 and will bring together five countries, namely Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, Benin and Nigeria.
“I saw that there is a lot of enthusiasm at the level of the children. And, that’s what we want. There were a lot of strategies in the game and it’s very interesting. We need these intense moments for baseball to develop very quickly in Benin. We need to organize these kinds of competitions very often to raise the level of our little athletes”, confided Fernando Lavenir Atannon, president of the Fbbs, while appreciating the level of play of young children which is very satisfactory. “I toured the sub-region a bit and saw the athletes. So, I can tell myself that we can give ourselves a chance on the African level by starting at the regional level, ”he reassures himself. According to him, the objective is to win this regional competition in Nigeria. “If we win in Nigeria, we will qualify for the stage in Poland. And if we keep our hand and then we also qualify in Poland, we will validate our ticket for the USA,” he said.
