Dusek fifth at the World Cup in Veysonnaz

Jakob Dusek won the small final of the Snowboard Cross World Cup on Thursday in Veysonnaz (SUI) and thus finished fifth overall. Julian Lüftner failed as he was third in his run in the round of 16 and finished 27th. David Pickl was relegated to fourth place in his run in the quarterfinals because he left the line, but he would have only finished third and ended up in 16th place.

Luca Hämmerle and Andreas Kroh missed out on making the top 32, as did Pia Zerkhold (18th) in the women’s 16 final. The victories went to the German Martin Nörl, who prevailed in front of Alvaro Romero (ESP) and Lorenzo Sommariva (ITA), and the Brit Charlotte Banks, who won in front of Eva Adamczykova (CZE) and Josie Baff (AUS). Nörl thus took the lead in the World Cup, for Banks, who was also in the lead, it was the fifth World Cup victory in a row. Next week the World Cup finals will take place in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada.

Olympic champion Alessandro Hämmerle was not at the start, he had decided to end his season prematurely the day before after finishing seventh in qualifying. The man from Vorarlberg is still suffering from the after-effects of two concussions that he sustained when he fell during training on the Reiteralm in mid-January and at the beginning of March at the World Championships in Bakuriani (GEO).
