Court reopens investigation in Promes case, final judgment postponed

The court reopens the investigation in the criminal case against Quincy Promes. The verdict of next Friday will be postponed, but an interim judgment will follow. The court announced this today. Justice suspects the former Ajax player of stabbing a cousin in the knee with a knife in July 2020.

It is still unclear why the investigation against the former Ajax player is being reopened. Next Friday’s session will continue as usual. The court promises to explain everything there in more detail.

Two years in prison

Promes is suspected of stabbing his cousin more than two years ago during a family party in Abcoude. At that time he was a player of Ajax. The first pre-trial hearing was held in October and the substantive hearing of the case was two weeks ago. The OM demanded a two-year prison sentence against the footballer.

The stabbing incident came to light because Promes was overheard in another investigation. On tapped telephone conversations, Promes is said to have confessed to stabbing his cousin.

400 kilograms of cocaine

Promes is tapped because the judiciary suspects the footballer of having been involved in drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization. For example, the former Ajax player is said to have paid a fine of 250,000 euros to the Surinamese drug lord Piet Wortel. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he would have paid that fine as compensation for a rip deal of 400 kilos of coke. The investigation in that case is still ongoing.

Robert Malewizc, Promes’ lawyer, believes that his client should be acquitted. Promes denies having stabbed. The defense believes that the intercepted conversations should be excluded from the evidence, because this information would have been obtained unlawfully.

Promes has been playing football at Spartak Moscow since the beginning of 2021. He was not present at both the introductory sessions and the substantive treatment.
