Gini Wijnaldum is the wild card in midfield that José Mourinho has been waiting for. He did without it for six months, but now that he’s back he ranges between the midfield and the trocar giving undisputed quality to the departments. The Dutchman has also returned to the national team following a shin injury last August. Now he’s on the rise, he’s guaranteeing continuity and in the last match with Sassuolo he scored his first goal in a Roma shirt (“I’m happy, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for points. Thank you all for the great support”) .

His arrival in August was a blessing for Mourinho who had been asking for an experienced midfielder (Xhaka) since his first year at the Giallorossi. After a season, Gini arrived on loan from PSG after a month-long negotiation, and the department actually made the leap in quality. Still immature speeches given that the Giallorossi are not sure of their place in the Champions League, but if Roma were to achieve fourth place, then champions of the caliber of Wijnaldum will be needed.
