Winter baseball in Alma

Since February 5, Alma Minor Baseball (BMA) has been offering a winter baseball session for the first time, inside the Alma Multisports Centre.

In demand for a few years, the BMA has finally decided to try the experiment this winter, and the success is already there.

“We had requests from young people, parents and coaches to hold a baseball session during the winter. But it wasn’t that long ago that we had a small pool of players, so that was irrelevant. Today, with more than 200 players during the summer, the possibility was there to try this experience this year”, explains the president of the BMA, Nicolas Dufour.

His goal for this first session of indoor baseball was to have between 15 and 20 players. But at the start of activities on February 5, they were close to 45 registered players.

“It’s a nice surprise! We still have room. We can accommodate up to 60 young people, so it’s always possible to register. »

The winter session is open to young people in the U9 to U15 categories.

Development objective

The 8-week session, in the absence of one training session per week, aims to develop several facets of the players’ game.

“It’s very friendly training, it’s not a competitive training camp. I don’t want it to be seen as a baseball school. The training sessions are given by our trainers and the goal is to improve the game of the players in the pleasure. »

Among the aspects that will be worked on, the players will train to improve their offensive side at bat, they will practice their throws and they will put everything into practice during simulated games.

“We will also develop the infield, the outfields and the baseball IQ. We want to teach players what are the best games to play in certain circumstances. »
