Kazakhstan wins Judo Grand Slam: Monday, February 6, 2023, 10:16



Kazakhstan News Agency/Astana/February 6 – The Judo Association of Kazakhstan announced on the 6th that Kazakhstan has won the right to host the Judo Grand Slam.

Kazakhstan Judo Federation President Juanshbek Yeskeyev and International Judo Federation President Marius Wiesel recently signed an agreement on hosting the World Judo Grand Slam in Kazakhstan.

According to the agreement, Kazakhstan will become one of the main venues of the World Judo Grand Slam from 2023 to 2026. The world famous judo event to be held in Kazakhstan has received its own name: Qazaqstan barysy Grand Slam. Judokas from around the world will battle it out for tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Games at the Grand Slam event in Kazakhstan.

At the signing ceremony, President of the International Judo Federation Wizel said that Judo in Kazakhstan has a long history and has successfully held many important events. He expressed his belief that holding the Grand Slam in Kazakhstan will provide new impetus for the development and popularization of domestic judo.

Juanshbek Yeskeyev pointed out that Kazakhstan has accumulated a lot of experience in hosting large-scale judo competitions. It has hosted the World Judo Grand Prix, Masters, Championships and many Asian Championships. He emphasized that Kazakh judokas are active in the world judo arena and have demonstrated high achievements.

It is worth mentioning that two players from Kazakhstan won the bronze medal in the Judo Grand Slam held in Paris, France.

Specifically, Kazakhstan’s Danyar Sugishiyev won a bronze medal in the 73kg category.

Another Kazakh athlete, Abiba Abzakinova, also won a bronze medal in the 48kg event held on the 4th.
