This will be the Tómbola pavilion: three covered tracks, five stands and capacity for 350

Alicante, February 20, 2023. The Alicante City Council gives the green light to an important work that will improve the sports facilities in the North zone with the approval of the project to build a new and modern sports complex in Tómbola with a multidisciplinary pavilion, which is expected to hold 350 spectators and will have three indoor courts, on a plot of 18,422 square meters, located on Calle de Penáguila.

The comprehensive reform of these facilities has an investment of 5,573,773 euros and a construction period of 24 months, and has been promoted by the departments of Infrastructure, directed by José Ramón González, and Sports, with José Luis Berenguer. The Government team highlights that “the project contemplates a large, high-quality pavilion with a very modern and attractive design, which will perfectly adapt to the needs of users and will substantially modernize the public equipment of the neighborhood and the image of the current sports center ”.

Specifically, the Alicante City Council will carry out this ambitious project, prepared by the company San Juan Arquitectura SL, in facilities located next to the pre-existing sports center in Tómbola, where a municipal facility for football on artificial turf is located, which will be maintained. in a block defined by the streets Penáguila, Virgen del Puig, Virgen del Rosario and Virgen de la Luz.

Reform and construction of three new sports courts

The project plans to use the space where the futsal/basketball and paddle tennis court is currently located to build this important new pavilion, which will have three new indoor courts for sports such as basketball, handball, futsal, volleyball and badminton, indoor fitness, cafeteria, changing rooms and stands.

The councilors of Sports and Infrastructures highlighted that this project is part of the modernization plan for sports facilities that began a few years ago with which “we are managing to invest in improving infrastructures, pavilions, sports centers, soccer fields so that they can be repaired , managing to put them in value with new constructions like this pavilion in Tómbola so that our athletes can train in the best facilities and in perfect conditions for sports use”.

In this way, a firm commitment is made in the Zona Norte neighborhood to build a first-class sports complex, with a building with five stands and a capacity for 350 people. The layout of the plot as a whole will be landscaped with pedestrian roads to make it more accessible, and the building will have a zero CO2 emissions balance during its operation.

Likewise, the sports pavilion will be used by the Alicante City Council and the Department of Sports is responsible for its use, for physical education, school sports, recreational sports, training and local competition of federative sports. The center will be equipped with all the necessary spaces for the development of activities with sports courts, changing rooms, toilets and storage.

This project has been based on guidelines for sustainability and an almost zero environmental balance in buildings, with the objective, as highlighted by the mayor José Ramón González, of “improving energy efficiency and minimizing demand through bioclimatic and eco-efficient characteristics of the building”. For this, energy production has been maximized with renewable sources, applying techniques of bioclimatic architecture, energy efficiency, renewable production and bioconstruction.

New pavilion with first class facilities

The future pavilion will also have, in addition to the three tracks, a weights and fitness room, equipment storage, changing rooms for players, work area and changing rooms for monitors and referees, nursing room, service area and toilets. As well as a space for visitors with access, lobby and distribution corridors, stands for 350 spectators, cafeteria and toilets.

In addition, this project proposes an intervention in the urbanization of the area, with a new paving and adding parking areas for bicycles and various landscaped spaces with the change of lighting. The total constructed area between sports courts and buildings on the plot is 5,956 square meters, and the area of ​​the projected building is 4,157.17 square meters. Therefore, the final constructed area on the entire plot will be 10,113.17 square meters.
