Thiam confirms participation in European Indoor Championships: “Perfect opportunity to test my form” | Athletics

Last year, Nafi Thiam skipped the indoor season, but the Olympic heptathlon champion will be present in Istanbul. She will defend her European title in the pentathlon.

For Thiam, who took a new coach with Michael Van der Plaetsen a few months ago, it will be a first test. “I’m not going to lie. After all these months of hard work, I’m curious to see where I stand,” she says.

“That’s why I’m going to join the fun and compete in the pentathlon in Istanbul. I see it as the perfect opportunity to test my form, while also gathering valuable feedback for the outdoor season.”

Thiam got ready in South Africa and that felt good, she says. “It was fun and it also opened my eyes. I am not specifically prepared for an indoor pentathlon as I am still adjusting to a new training routine.”

“But I’m very proud of the work I’ve already put in and I’m curious to see how that will translate into my running, jumping and throwing.”

Whether Noor Vidts will also travel to Istanbul is still unclear. The 2021 European vice champion missed the BK indoor with flu last weekend.
