Thomas Tuchel is immediately looking forward after the 2-2 draw in the first semi-final round against Real. Now we’re going to Madrid – “and the winner takes it all”. Wembley remains Bayern’s goal.

After the annoying 2-2 draw in the first semi-final against Real Madrid, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel quickly turned his attention to the crucial Champions League second leg in Spain.

“It’s not worth arguing with the result for long. The starting position is very clear. We’re going to Madrid – and the winner takes it all,” said Tuchel in the Allianz Arena. The winner on Wednesday next week will then move on to the final on June 1st at Wembley Stadium in London.

Bayern turned the game around in the Allianz Arena after the 0-1 half-time score with goals from Leroy Sané and Harry Kane. But in the final stages Real hit back with a penalty from two-time goalscorer Vinicius Junior. “Real have done this with other teams,” Tuchel remarked about Real’s effectiveness. “We lost the first half and won the second,” said Tuchel: “It’s still a fifty-fifty game.”

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti made a similar statement: “Nothing has been decided yet.” However, given the home advantage in the semi-final second leg, the former Bayern coach rated the result as “good for the second leg”.

“The Bernabeu is one of the hardest places”

Tuchel knows that Bayern will need a great performance to get their last chance of the season by reaching the final in the premier class. “The Bernabeu Stadium is one of the hardest places to win,” said the 50-year-old. “We have 90 minutes, 120 minutes, maybe a penalty shootout. The goal is clear, we have to win.”
