Real Madrid travels to Morocco without a number of permanent employees, where the World Cup for clubs will be played this week. The injured Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema, among others, are missing from last season’s Champions League winner.
Courtois and Benzema were also missing last weekend in the 1-0 loss against RCD Mallorca. Courtois dropped out in the warm-up, Benzema was already absent.
If Real Madrid reach the final on Saturday, Courtois and Benzema may be available again. The same goes for defender Éder Militão. Lucas Vázquez, Eden Hazard and Ferland Mendy also do not travel to Morocco due to injuries.
Partly due to the many injuries, Real is not exactly in shape. The Madrid top club won only one of the last three league games. The gap with leader FC Barcelona therefore increased to eight points last weekend.
Real Madrid can enter the semi-finals at the World Cup for club teams. De Koninklijke’ won the World Cup for club teams four times before. The last time was in the 2018/2019 season.
In the semi-final battle, Real will take on the Egyptian leader Al-Ahly on Wednesday at 8 p.m., which eliminated MLS club Seattle Sounders in the quarter finals. The other semi-final is between Flamengo from Brazil and Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia.
