NFL: Derek Carr has permission to chat with teams

The Raiders have given Derek Carr permission to talk to teams that have already agreed to compensation requested by Las Vegas in a potential trade, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday.

It’s the same deal as Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans last season.

Carr said Thursday during the Pro Bowl skills competition that he and his representatives were waiting for permission to speak with teams that might be interested in Carr. He has a no-trade clause in his contract and he said he would use it if necessary.

Carr also said Thursday that he has no plans to extend the Feb. 15 date on his contract, when he is guaranteed $40 million.

The 31-year-old quarterback signed a five-year, $125 million contract with the Raiders in 2017, followed by a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension last spring. The most recent extension included the rights for the Raiders to cut him before Feb. 15 for a $5.625 million impact on the salary cap.

Carr, who has been the Raiders’ starting quarterback since being selected in the second round of the 2014 draft, bid farewell to the team and its fans in a statement last month.
