Latvian U19 footballers score three goals against the Croatians in six minutes

Seven changes were made in the starting line-up of the Latvian national team after the previous match against the Slovenians. In general, the tournament used a wide rotation of players, with no footballer making the starting line-up for all three matches.

At the end of the first half, Croatia’s young footballers managed to earn a penalty kick and then take it to take the lead. In the 55th minute, Valery Lizunov regained the balance on the scoreboard, for whom this was the second goal in this tournament.

In the previous games of the tournament, the Latvian team drew (2:2) with their peers from China, and also lost (1:2) to the Slovenian U19 national team.

Coach Dovalil had included 20 players from domestic clubs in the list of candidates for this tournament, among which the largest representation with eight players is “Riga”.

The Latvian U19 national team will compete against Serbia, Poland and Israel in the Elite round of the 2023 European Championship qualification at the end of March in Poland, fighting for one ticket to the final tournament.

In September, the Latvian U19 national team passed the first round of qualification when they kept clean sheets in duels with Romania and Austria, but beat their peers from Lithuania 1:0. Having won the second place in the group, the Latvian U19 national team entered the Elite round, securing a place among the 27 best teams in Europe.
