Ligue 1: Brest returns Rennes after a completely crazy derby and gets closer to the Champions League

Brest is stunning! In the tough after its two defeats against Lyon and Monaco, Stade Brestois came back from a 2-goal deficit against Rennes to finally win 5-4, after a crazy end to the match. Thanks to this success, the Finisterians move up to third place in Ligue 1, temporarily left to Lille, winner in Metz. The Rennais remain seventh, pending the meeting on Sunday evening between Marseille and Lens.

At the end of added time, with a header, Lilian Brassier came to crucify Rennes on a free kick from Mathias Pereira Lage (4-5, 90th + 7) to offer a crucial success to Brest in the race for the Champions League . However, everything started badly for the people of Brest. In five minutes, Arnaud Kalimuendo allowed his team to lead 2-0. The Rennes striker first deceived Marco Bizot with a cross shot from the right (1-0, 5th), before taking advantage of a bad exit from the Dutch goalkeeper on a cross from Désiré Doué to push the ball into the goal empty (2-0, 9th). Eric Roy’s players reacted quickly. Steve Mounié had to do it twice to reduce the gap (2-1, 11th).

A second period of madness

Returning from the locker room, Warmed Omari misjudged a cross from Mahdi Camara which ended in his own goal (2-2, 48th). And a few minutes later Martin Satriano allowed his team to lead for the first time in the match by heading home a cross from Bradley Locko with a powerful header (2-3, 54th). On fire Brest continued its momentum and Mahdi Camara gave his team a more comfortable lead, with a nice volley (2-4, 66th).

But the Rennes did not let themselves be defeated and managed to get back on the scoreboard. Served by Benjamin Bourigeaud, Arthur Theate deceived Bizot with a well-placed shot on the edge of the area (3-4, 68th). Finally, Martin Terrier came to cut a free kick from Bourigeaud to equalize (4-4, 79th), before Brest’s final achievement.
