That’s what you call encouragement!
After the coming out of the Czech national player Jakub Jankto (27, loaned to Sparta Prague from Getafe), his ex-wife Marketá Ottomanská is now making an emotional statement.
“I am very proud that he was able to gather the strength to go public,” writes Ottomanská, to whom Jankto was married until 2021.
And further: “When Jakub told me, he also gave me great freedom. The most important thing now is that he is safe and happy. I’m sure he will feel relieved and nothing will break him down inside.”
The designer Ottomanská, who has a son (David, 3) with Jankto, also describes in her own words that the 45-times Czech international had great fears about the public coming out.
“He was afraid that people wouldn’t accept him for who he is. He was stressed about it. I think people will love him as much as they do now,” the Czech continues.
Ottomanská continues: “All you have to do is be nice to him. There are still many people who write him private messages and threaten him. It’s terrible that this is still happening today. Strangers interested in each other’s lives.”
It is not a problem for the Czech ex-wife and her family that Jankto has confessed to his homosexuality: “I don’t deal with it anymore. I don’t blame him. We’re parents, so we have to get along.”
Czech national player Jakub Jankto courageously announced his coming out on social media on Monday. “I’m gay and I don’t want to hide anymore,” the midfielder said in a video post.
He didn’t want to “hide anymore”. Jankto is now the first active footballer in Europe’s top leagues to come out as gay.
His regular club Getafe FC also congratulated the midfield star on Twitter, writing: “Our greatest respect and unconditional support for our footballer Jakub Jankto.”
The Czech Football Association “FAČR” also congratulated: “Nothing will change for us. Live your life, Jakub!”
