Bartomeu denies having paid journalists to support his management

The ex-president of FC Barcelona Josep María Bartomeu has presented a brief of allegations to the trial court number 13 of Barcelona, which is handling the cause of the so-called case ‘Barçagate‘, in which he denies that he paid journalists during his term in order to defend his management before public opinion.

In the brief of allegations to which EFE has had access, the defense of the former Barça president regrets “the leak” of a report by the Mossos d’Esquadra added to the ‘Barçagate’ summary that determines that “some journalists received money from the club itself” by order of Bartomeu.

In the aforementioned report, the Mossos assure that they reached “falsifying invoices to divert money to the journalists chosen by Bartomeu” and that “on various occasions Bartomeu also ordered third-party companies to make payments to journalists.”

According to the brief of allegations presented by the defense of the former president of Barcelona, the police official “mere conjectures that do not even amount to mere suspicions, which have not even been verified by the issuers of the report”.

In addition, it denounces that “the news has provoked a reaction not only in the media but also on social networks, with the damage to privacy, honor and reputation” by Bartomeu.

In this sense, the letter emphasizes that “allegedly uncertain facts are disclosed in which (Bartomeu) has not participated and which remain in the retina of public opinion as if they were true”.

Therefore, the defense takes advantage of the brief to “categorically deny” that Bartomeu “pay any journalist for any kind of purpose that is intended (in the report of) the Mossos d’Esquadra”.

And precise: “FC Barcelona like all the football teams in the world with a certain entity, companies, etc., contracts with various communication agencies”.

Lastly, the brief requests the judge to “warns the Mossos d’Esquadra, with the appropriate warnings, so that this type of action stops”, in reference to the leaks of part of the summary to the media.

“Unspeakable actions, which do not have a procedural nature and where taking conversations taken out of context, conclusions are reached that even allow themselves the luxury of legally qualify, extreme that corresponds to the parties and not to the acting force under judicial supervision”, he adds.

For this reason, Bartomeu’s defense considers that he is “absolutely defenseless” and asks that he surrender “a complete report” to be able to defend themselves once they have access to all the seized material.

In their report, the Mossos d’Esquadra ensure that “these are indirect payments that FC Barcelona would pay through third-party companies (prior transfer to the club) to favor Bartomeu’s digital reputation and attack his rivals”.

In their conclusions, the Mossos consider that these facts could presumably constitute crimes of unfair administration and corruption between individuals.
