2022 was extremely interesting for Joaquin Niemann. After starting with two top tens and a win at The Genesis Invitational, he continued on the right path and showed that his placement in the PGA ranking as the best Latin American was no coincidence. However, 75 million dollars was enough for him to switch to the LIV Golf Tour and now he is looking for another Chilean.
The LIV does not provide points for the world ranking, but that does not interest him Joaco for the moment and that is why he continues to perform at tournaments in Boston, Chicago, Bangkok, Jeddah and Oman, among others. He didn’t win any of those, but he did win The Match a couple of months ago at the hands of Mito Pereira. It is precisely Guillermo Pereira Hinke who Joaquin Niemann want to drag to the new circuit: “I would love to bring him, I am doing everything possible, but in the end the decision is his”.
“I imagine him playing LIV. It would be ideal for him to be in the team, but that’s not yet known. Hopefully it will be. For me, at least, it would be ideal for him to be in the team”, announced in dialogue with “La Tercera”. Coincidentally on that occasion, when both triumphed in The Match, Mito listened carefully to his compatriot and today it seems a reality that his move to the circuit can truly be consummated together with JoaKing.
Pereira’s year began this February with the Saudi International, where he achieved sixth place with a -12 card. Later this last weekend, he showed up at the International Series Oman with an eleventh place and a -1. Joaquin Niemannmeanwhile, participated in both as well and closed with tenth and fifth place respectively.
More golfers link it to the LIV
Niemann’s words at the time were simply a wish, but now it was the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz who said that Mito is close to joining the LIV Golf League. The words of the South American were in an interview with the newspaper “El Tiempo” and replicated by “Golf Channel LA”.
“Mito Pereira will join his compatriot in the 2023 season that starts in Mayakoba, leaving Chile without representatives on the maximum tour,” the outlet wrote on its Twitter account. On February 26 will be the first tournament in Mexico and its second day will be on March 19 in Tucson, United States.
