Four questions for a season

At 29, Céline Boutier is entering her sixth full season on the LPGA Tour. The French, 14th in the world, continues to progress. But he lacks the line of choice on the CV: a victory in Major.

Last year, the Parisian signed a fourth place in the first stage of the Women’s Grand Slam then a seventh at the British Open. Why not imagine Céline Boutier winning the US Open at Pebble Beach in June, or even lifting the trophy in Évian at the end of July?

The race for world No. 1 looks like a game of musical chairs. Three have been swapping it for a few months: Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Spaniard Rahm, current leader of the rankings, is the most impressive having bagged three of his first five outings on the PGA Tour in 2023.

However, a “Tiger-style” domination seems unlikely given the level density displayed by his two closest pursuers. The three-beat waltz is launched. And the Majors risk setting the pace for the trio.

MORE FRENCH ON THE PGA TOUR?

The road to the lucrative American circuit has been a little less winding since the European Tour and PGA Tour agreed in 2022. For the first time, the top ten players in the Race to Dubai with no playing rights in America will automatically obtain a full category for the star circuit.

The French Victor Perez and Antoine Rozner, victorious on the European Tour this season, are in the nails.

THE RYDER CUP FOR EUROPE?

Rome will host the 44th Ryder Cup next September. And Europe will seek to win back a cup stolen by Americans in a show of force two years ago (19-9).

The European training of Luke Donald will undoubtedly rely on its executives (McIlroy, Rahm, Fleetwood), but will above all need fresh blood on the course of the Marco Simone G & CC. The French Victor Perez is expected for a first selection, he who had failed by nothing in 2021.
