All-Star Game Records: Will Giannis Defend His Best?

The annual All-Star Game takes place in Salt Lake City on Monday night. Many a superstar could climb further in some categories of the eternal leaderboards. We show the previous record holders at ASG.

Last year, the red hot Stephen Curry set a new record – and missed another by a hair’s breadth. Will we now see the next record show at Salszsee? Unfortunately not from Curry, the chef has to sit out just like Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson injured. Of course, enough star power is still represented at the 72nd All-Star Game in history.

Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo has a record to defend – and he finally wants to knock LeBron James off his throne. The King is on board as team captain for the sixth time in the All-Star Game, and his teams are 5-0 so far. As the second captain, Giannis now has to put together a powerful team.

We only know exactly what the two teams will look like shortly before tip-off of the actual All-Star Games (live from 2 a.m. on DAZN). The NBA is only allowing the All-Star Draft to be held shortly before the game this year, it is scheduled to start at 1:30 a.m. German time. LeBron has the first pick because he received the most votes in the All-Star Fan Voting, then it goes on alternately. The two team captains James and Antetokounmpo can choose from this pool of players:

As in previous years, the winner of the All-Star Games is determined by a “Target Score” or also called “Elam Ending” after Dr. Nick Elam. The first three quarters each represent three mini-games, the winner of each quarter starting at 0:0 gets money for a good cause.

In the fourth quarter, on the other hand, there is no longer a clock. Instead, the results of the first three quarters are added together and then the final target score is determined. In addition, 24 points – in honor of Kobe Bryant – are added to the number of points for the leading team. The winner of the All-Star Game is the team that reaches this target score first.

Do we see the next record show like last year? Anyone even break the points record? We’ll show you the most important All-Star Game records and the stats leaders before the spectacle starts on Monday night.
