Several Espanyol fans injured after being attacked by radicals near the RCDE Stadium

BarcelonaA fight between supporters of Espanyol and Betis near the Cornellà-El Prat stadium has ended with several injured. At least two white-and-blues supporters would have been taken to hospital centers to be treated, as sources from the Spanish club have told ARA. Other milder cases have received medical assistance by an ambulance. The Spanish club admit that they are not aware of any serious injuries, but there are some bruises on the head and the rest of the body that will have to be checked by the medical services.

The events took place this Saturday at mid-morning in the vicinity of the RCDE Stadium, in a space located near the UE Cornellà field where the animation group La Curva usually sets up tents before every Espanyol game . Witnesses who alerted the police say it was a fight in Sorral del Riu street in Cornellà de Llobregat, between two groups of fans, one of Betis and another of Espanyol. These would have thrown chairs and broken glass bottles at each other. Once some of the Mossos d’Escuadra troops designated by the Espanyol-Betis security cordon arrived at the scene, the situation has returned to normal. At the moment there would be no arrests.

Through a statement, ‘Espanyol has denounced and condemned “the aggression perpetrated by a series of radicals pending identification of white-and-blue fans”.
