In Hamar, Norway, the skaters will compete in the combined European all-round and sprint championships this weekend. The field of participants includes twelve Dutchmen, who will compete with the foreign competition for a total of four titles that will be awarded in the Vikingskipet. Below you can read more about the program and the Dutch assets.
It is the fourth time that the different disciplines are combined at an European Championship. The tournament has been taking place in odd years since 2017, in even years the World Cup all-round and sprint are on the program. In the past, the all-round and sprint titles were still awarded during separate tournaments.
Two years ago in Heerenveen, all titles remained in the Netherlands. Patrick Roest and Antoinette de Jong turned out to be the best all-rounders, Thomas Krol and Jutta Leerdam had the fastest legs in the sprint tournament. Of those four, only Krol cannot defend his title. He was unable to qualify during the NK sprint, where the tickets for the European Championship were distributed between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
