In 2014, Odjick reported that he was suffering from what is known as AL amyloidosis. In this fatal disease, a protein compound called amyloid, which the body is unable to break down, accumulated in his heart.
In the NHL, Odjick spent eight seasons in Vancouver, with whom he played in the Stanley Cup finals in 1993/94. With the Canucks, he accumulated 2,127 penalty minutes and is the most penalized player in club history.
