NFL player collapses mid-game and is in critical condition

Buffalo Bills ‘safety’ Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals and is in critical condition.

The 24-year-old collapsed in the first quarter of the popular Monday Night Football (MNF) game, underwent CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on the field at Paul Brown Stadium and after 16 minutes of medical attention was rushed by ambulance to a downtown hospital. After being taken off the field, Bills and Bengals players prepared to start the game, but Stefon Diggs met with all teammates to talk and coaches Zac Taylor (Bengals) and Sean McDermott (Bills) talked to the referees. Together they decided to suspend the game with the score of 7 to 3 in favor of Cincinnati after 21 minutes played.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed the suspension of the game in a statement, noting that “Hamlin received immediate on-field medical attention from the team, independent medical personnel and local EMTs.”

Players from different disciplines, such as Lebron James, Pau Gasol or Patrick Mahomes, even NFL teams showed their shock at what happened and joined in the prayers for the speedy recovery of the player, who fainted on the field after suffering a blow to the head, chest.

Other players, including Robert Griffin III, joined in prayers for the player, but asked that the video of the moment Hamlin collapsed not be shared out of respect for the family. “Please do not share the video of Damar Hamlin’s play. Please share because we are all praying for him and his family.”
