Paolo Maldini assesses that AC Milan’s back line is bad, not just the defender’s fault. The Rossoneri midfielders and attackers also did not do well enough pressing.

Milan was slaughtered by Lazio 0-4 at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian League continued match, Wednesday (25/1/2023) early morning WIB. The four goals for the Capital Eagle came from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the 4th minute, Mattia Zaccagni in the 38th minute, Luis Alberto (67′) and Felipe Anderson (75′).

This defeat has made Milan yet to rise from a series of bad results. They haven’t won in the last five games. The result of three defeats and two draws.

The fragility of the back line is considered the main cause of this bad trend that has hit Milan. Milan never cleansheet and conceded 12 times in the last five matches.

In the match against Lazio, Milan’s weakness was again exposed. Lazio can make 10 shots with five aiming at goal. Of the five shots on target, four resulted in goals.

Milan’s director, Paolo Maldini, however, was reluctant to fully blame the Rossoneri defender for this poor result. He considered Milan collectively bad. The Milan defenders did not receive good enough protection from the midfielders and attackers.

“If the first press doesn’t work, the opponent becomes dangerous. I think we struggle to move together as a unit, and it’s a team sport. You have to have a guarded area, not feel alone with no one looking over your shoulder. This is something you can we change it, because we did very well recently,” Maldini said as quoted by Football Italia.

“Too often, the psychological aspect can affect your confidence and the choices you make, which then leads to mistakes that allow your opponent to score.”

Milan is still in second place with 38 points. However, they are 12 points behind Napoli at the top of the standings.
