FE News | Brothers to represent their college at national badminton finals

Brothers and fellow students from Barking & Dagenham College, Moiz and Saim Ahmed, took victory in a regional badminton competition against other colleges.

Moiz Ahmed is now the London Area Men’s Badminton Singles Champion and will represent his college at the Association of Colleges National Championships in Nottingham in April.

Badminton is one of many extracurricular sports “enrichment” activities at the College, and Moiz plays weekly with other students at the sports center.

Incredibly, this was Moiz’s first competition!

His brother, Saim Ahmed, came third with another superb display of skill and stamina and also secured a place in the national championships.

At the national championships, the brothers, who are studying computer science, will go on to play in singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournaments with the other two successful players from Leyton Sixth Form College.

A total of five students participated, Emma Keegan, Sports Center Manager and Business Hiring Coordinator, says:

“These students are studying for a variety of non-athletic courses including IT, Utilities, Finance and Accounting and none had competed before, so I’m especially glad they took the opportunity and have succeeded so well.

“All the students interacted very well and made new friends; it was great to see the sport bringing people together.
