The ball is rolling again in Gladbach!

The first opponent on Saturday is third division club VfB Oldenburg – for Nico Elvedi (26) the first game after the World Cup. The tournament in Qatar did not go as planned for the Swiss central defender – Elvedi was only allowed to play in the 1-0 opening win against Cameroon and the 0-1 defeat against Brazil. He missed the game against Serbia (3-2) because of a cold and was on the bench for 90 minutes in the 6-1 loss to Portugal.

Elvedi on Switzerland’s World Cup performance: “We played a really good group phase and played three good games. In the round of 16 we weren’t in the best form on the day, but Portugal had a really good day.”

However, his concentration now belongs fully to Borussia – and he wants to improve that with the team in the new year.

Elvedi: “There is definitely still potential for improvement. We had really good games, but also some that didn’t go so well. We have to try to bring even more consistency to our performances. We intend to do the same for the second half of the season. I am convinced that we will succeed.”

Elvedi, who has already played in the Champions League with Borussia, would like to be back at international level with the foals next season.

The Swiss national player (43 international matches): “The team definitely has the quality to be able to play on the European pitches. The coach managed to inject a new game idea into the team. This is a process that still takes time. But we’re on the right track and I’m sure we can do even better in the new year and play a good second half of the season.”
