Bayern wins in “Freak City”

Bayern’s top pitcher: “I’m happy that we won. After last weekend’s defeat, we had to react through the fight – and with a new game plan. And this time we were focused. We expected Bamberg to play so well today. We just had to stay calm in front of this crowd. This is Freak City, the fans are going crazy. Wherever you have such fans, the home team is incredibly pushed. We knew we had to stay calm and fight to the end.”

As a result, Bayern are back on track in the league as third in the table behind leaders Alba Berlin and Telekom Baskets Bonn. In the Euroleague, the team of coach Andrea Trinchieri had recently won at defending champion Anadolu Efes Istanbul, in the Bundesliga there had also been a defeat against permanent rival Alba Berlin before the clap against Ludwigsburg at the start of the new year.

Bayern coach Trinchieri: “Augustine is a modern big man, he can post and throw, play two positions. He is a big piece of the puzzle for our team. Sometimes I have to push him because he’s still too shy. At Efes he quickly had two fouls and was cold, but in the second half he was great.”
