BBL, 14th matchday: Oldenburg slips

The Baskets Oldenburg suffered a surprising defeat in the basketball Bundesliga.

The previous fourth in the table lost on Saturday (January 7th, 2023) at Brose Bamberg with 78:89 (40:49). Instead of closing the gap to FC Bayern Munich in third place, Oldenburg slipped down to sixth place due to their fifth defeat of the season.

The Lower Saxony, where Alen Pjanic was the best thrower with 18 points, lost three of the four quarters and could only reach a 19:19 in the final section. Host Bamberg, coached by Oren Amiel, had their best basket scorer in Patrick Miller (17) and thanks to their sixth win of the season improved from 13th to eleventh place in the table.

MBC Weißenfels defeated Löwen Braunschweig 63:59. Weißenfels improved to eleventh place, Braunschweig remains last. Towers Hamburg lost Ulm 65-80, Merlins Crailsheim beat Academics Heidelberg 102-93.

Bonn consolidates table lead

The Baskets Bonn are still unstoppable. On Friday, the leader of the table won against the Rostock Seawolves with 99:71 (54:33) and thus achieved his seventh win in a row. With a record of 13 wins and only one defeat, the Bonn team will be able to defend their lead in front of second-placed Alba Berlin after the 14th matchday. For Rostock it was the third defeat in a row. After a furious start with four wins at the start of the season, the promoted team has now lost eight of the last ten games.
