Arsenal have dropped points in the Premier League for only the fourth time this season. In the top game at home against number three Newcastle United, the leader did not get further than a 0-0 draw after five consecutive victories.

With captain Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, the home team started furiously and the 1-0 seemed only a matter of time. But gradually in the first half, Newcastle, which performed so surprisingly this season, with Sven Botman in the base, managed to defend itself better and better.

After the break, Arsenal slowly but surely increased the pressure again and Newcastle proved to be an expert in stretching time. Tempers regularly ran high and no less than nine yellow cards were handed out.

The Gunners came close once more through Eddie Nketiah, but goalkeeper Nick Pope gave Newcastle the hard-fought point.

Manchester United win, injury Van de Beek

Because of that point, Newcastle was just ahead of Manchester United in the standings. The team of trainer Erik ten Hag booked a simple 3-0 win over Bournemouth at home.

United had no child for England’s number 15. Casemiro opened the scoring with a very controlled volley and Luke Shaw made it 2-0 after an attack over many discs. In the final phase, the outstanding left back prepared Marcus Rashford’s 3-0 with a nice pass.

Donny van de Beek leaves the field affected and injured

The evening went a lot less for Donny van de Beek. The midfielder was only allowed to start in the starting line-up for the second time this season from Ten Hag, but fell out before half-time with an apparently serious knee injury after an unfortunate collision with Marcos Senesi. Van de Beek left the field emotionally.

Everton went down hard at home against Brighton & Hove Albion: 1-4. Leicester also lost 1-0 to Fulham at home.
