VIDEO: You won’t find players with Zinedine Zidane’s technique anymore. Remember his charms

Real Madrid is going without any major problems this season, but the management has to think about next year. In June, the contracts of several stars expire, and president Florentino Pérez has to think about how he wants to assemble the squad for the next season.

As many as 7 Real Madrid footballers have a contract only until June 2023. In addition to less busy footballers like Mariano Diaz and Dani Ceballos, they are rotation players Marco Asensio and the club’s protégé Nacho, and then also three big stars.

Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. At first glance, there is not much to solve. All three stars are performing great despite their advanced age and there should be no problem with the contract. But each of them has its own story.

Contracts for a year

President Florentino Pérez does not give players over the age of 33 contracts longer than 1 year. It has a policy that a player must earn his contract in a given season and then get a contract for the next year. They are afraid that there will be a decline in the performance of older players and that Real will not have to pay them an expensive contract after that, even if they no longer play in the first team.

Pérez does not back down from this policy even with the biggest stars. The split happened just last year with captain Sergio Ramos, who thought he had such a position and deserved a two-year contract for his services to have peace and security for his family for a longer time.

But Pérez was adamant and only offered the 35-year-old stopper a one-year contract with an option for another year if the club was satisfied with his performances. However, Ramos did not agree to this, so he eventually left for PSG, where he received a multi-year contract.

In the case of Karim Benzema, there should be no major problem. The French striker has never had a problem negotiating contracts, you practically never heard of any negotiations during his 13 and a half years at Madrid. In addition, he himself said that he does not want to hinder the club and that he will leave when he feels that he is no longer at the highest level.

But the current holder of the Ballon d’Or might want more certainty at the moment, especially when the youngster Endrick arrives at Real in 2024 and there is talk of interest in Erling Haaland.

Modric and Kroos

But he is already 35 years old and Pérez is adamant about this. Even so, it shouldn’t be a big problem. The same situation is with Luka Modrič.

The phenomenal midfielder will be 38 years old in August, yet still performs like a promising youngster. The Croatian received million-dollar offers from the USA and Saudi Arabia, but he let it be known that he wants to end his career at Real Madrid and has no thoughts of another club.

He already signed a one-year contract before the season, so he will have no problem signing again for one season.

The third star is a different matter. Toni Kroos this season is performing the best in the last 5 seasons, he is in great form and he is also the youngest of the three (he will be 33 in two days). Real want to do everything to extend the German, but here the problem is on the opposite side.

Kroos has already let it be known that he does not want to extend his career indefinitely, but he would like to finish at the top. He indicated 32-33 years as the final age. And on January 4, he will complete the years of Christ.

In addition, there are reports from behind the scenes that the management is worried that Kroos has decided to end his career in the summer. That is also why the club’s interest in Jud Bellingham is suddenly so hot.

Nacho and others

There is no doubt that Mariano Diaz will leave the club in the summer. He is practically free and Real have no interest in extending him. Marco Asensio is very much on the edge, because he would like to have a bigger workload, but the club is counting on him more as a player for the rotation. If he accepts the role, he will most likely get a new contract.

The question mark is with Nacho Fernandez. The big-hearted and educated never played for another club, it seemed like it would stay that way for the rest of his career. But speculations began to appear that he would also like to play more consistently at the end of his career, because after the arrival of Rüdiger, he does not get much space.

The uncertain situation is also with Dani Ceballos. The skilful midfielder proved to be a quality player for the rotation, but if Kroos and Modrič were to stay and the already mentioned Bellingham came, Ceballos’ playing time would be reduced to a minimum. But Ancelotti is satisfied with his performances and would like to keep him.
