CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox and pitcher Mike Clevinger have finalized a one-year deal that will see the right-handed gunner receive a minimum of US$12 million.
The White Sox announced the deal Sunday.
Clevinger will receive a salary of $8 million in 2023, but the contract also includes a clause at the discretion of either party, which will earn Clevinger $12 million in 2024. The pact also includes a clause of redemption of $4 million at the end of the next season.
The 31-year-old Clevinger was 7-7 with a 4.33 ERA in 23 games, including 22 as a starting pitcher, with the San Diego Padres in 2022.
Clevinger missed the entire 2021 season following Tommy John-style surgery.
In 128 major league baseball games, Clevinger is 51-30 with a 3.39 ERA. He also had 694 strikeouts in just over 656 innings.
