Michaela Polleres wins gold at Jerusalem Masters

LR Danninger: “Michaela Polleres is an absolutely exceptional athlete and a great role model for numerous younger generations”

St. Polten (OTS/NLK) Lower Austrian Michaela Polleres won her first judo masters in Jerusalem. At the overall second most important event of the World Federation (IJF), after the World Championships, the 25-year-old prevailed in the class up to 70 kg in the final against former French world champion Marie Eva Gahie. “Michaela Polleres is an absolutely exceptional athlete who, after her bronze medal at the World Championships and her Olympic silver medal last year, is now setting the next exclamation mark. With her achievements, she is a great role model for numerous younger generations and thus also supports us in the implementation of our Lower Austria Sports Strategy 2025. Congratulations, Michaela! The whole of Lower Austria is proud of you,” congratulates Sports Provincial Councilor Jochen Danninger.

In the quarter-finals, Polleres prevailed against the number one seeded Sanne van Dijke and made it 5:5 in a direct head-to-head with the Dutchwoman. Polleres was sovereign in the semifinals against Belgian Gabriella Willems. In the final, the Lower Austrian was initially behind, but turned the fight around and increased the head-to-head with Gahie to 5:3. With the victory in Jerusalem, the Olympic silver medalist managed a perfect end to the season of a year with many ups and downs. In addition, thanks to the 1,800 world ranking points gained, Polleres is also taking a trend-setting step towards qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
