Pro LeagueMechelen and Cercle de Bruges shared the stake, 1-1, in the match of the 18th day of the Pro League. In numerical superiority, the Malinois failed to take more than one point despite their numerous attempts including a penalty.
The Cercle surprised Mechelen shortly after the start, when Denkey launched deep by Francis crossed his shot to open the scoring in favor of the Bruges (0-1, 3rd). For Mechelen, Storm’s quarter-hour strike was too central to worry the goalkeeper (15th). His incursion a few minutes later from the left flank required a more difficult intervention from Majecki (20th).
After a strong Malinois time, Denkey almost disgusted the Malinois on a corner but his recovery of the head was stopped on the line by Schoofs (22nd). Daland’s deflected shot could also have surprised, but it finally got away from the goal (24th). On the other side, a cross shot from Storm hit the Bruges crossbar (34th).
After a rhythmic first half, the second period started on a high note with the exclusion of Deman for a second yellow card (52nd). Reduced to ten, the Bruges have made changes to protect their lead. The danger first came from Schoofs, stopped by Majecki (70th), but the goalkeeper was unable to resist yet another attempt from Storm, on a curled shot at the entrance to the area (1-1, 71st) .
At the end of the match, Mechelen did everything to snatch the three points. The KVM even obtained a penalty following a confused phase but Malede did not do himself justice (87th), stopped by Majecki before Storm touched the crossbar again (88th). In the standings, Mechelen (14th with 19 points) catches up with Eupen, while the Cercle is 8th with 26 points, tied with Standard, 7th, and Westerlo, 6th.
