Golfer dies at Christmas party She left the way she lived, the record holder’s family said

Kathy Whitworth, winner of a record 88 LPGA tournaments, has died at the age of 83. Her family informed about the death of the famous American golfer.

Whitworth died unexpectedly on Christmas Eve while celebrating Christmas with her family. “Kathy left the way she lived. With love, with a smile and making memories,” Bettye Odle, the legendary golfer’s partner, said on the LPGA Tour website.

Whitworth played professionally from 1958 to 1985 and became the first woman in history to earn over a million dollars in career earnings. In 1975, the winner of six majors was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame.

In total, Whitworth won 88 tournaments, which is also an absolute golf record. The men’s record on the PGA circuit belongs to Sam Snead and Tiger Woods, who both have 82 triumphs.
