Former baseball player Leonard Gates caused a surprise at the Darts World Cup in London and reached the second round.
The 52-year-old Gates defeated the Dutchman Geert Nentjes 3-1 on Monday evening (December 19, 2022) and thus achieved his first individual success on his debut.
“I definitely had ambitions to be a Major League Baseball player. It’s relatively easy to get in, but it’s hard to stay there. So for me it was like, now what?”the Texan Gates described his career.
In round two, Gates will face England’s Stephen Bunting.
