Bronze for Veronica Santoni at the European swimming championships. A special year for the sport of Porto Sant’Elpidio comes to an end

SWIMMING – Even the city’s sports results have perceived that 2022 was a special year, that of the 70 years of autonomy of the City of Porto Sant’Elpidio and of many successes that saw athletes and city teams as protagonists, from skating to baseball passing through the dance and artistic gymnastics, just to name a few.

Among the results to keep in mind there is also the bronze of Veronica Santoni, a 24-year-old from Elpidia, 20 of whom spent swimming in open water at sea, an award won in Rome at the European championships which took place from 16 to 21 August.

A 25 km race lasting about 5 hours which saw the best European athletes compete against each other and our Veronica placed in third place at the time of an interruption due to weather-related problems. The recognition and the medal arrived some time later, following the decisions of the judges and crowned Veronica’s goal of the year which is divided between Porto Sant’Elpidio and Rome where she swims with the Circolo Canottieri Aniene.

“I am very happy to have won this medal,” says the young woman. «It was the goal I set for myself at the beginning of the season and that repays the many training sessions and sacrifices made. For 2023 we aim to qualify for the World Cup».

Compliments go to Veronica from the Councilor for Sport Emanuela Ferracuti:

«Veronica’s is the umpteenth positive result of a truly special year for city sport, which has given us a lot of satisfaction in Europe and worldwide. Events to be proud of both for the importance they hold in the dissemination of sporting practice and the values associated with it and for the promotional role towards Porto Sant’Elpidio which more than once has risen in a more than positive way to the national news thanks to our athletes. Let’s therefore conclude a particular year that has enshrined the return to semi-normality, after the restrictions imposed for a long time by Covid and which have certainly penalized sport as well. The hope is of course that 2023 will bring new and even greater satisfaction to those who put their commitment into the passion for a sport”.
