Basketball: mental training for the kangaroos

How the BG Leitershofen/Stadtbergen in Coburg wants to get back on the road to success.

After the highlight game against FC Bayern Munich last Saturday, the basketball players of BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen continue seamlessly this weekend in the second basketball league. On Sunday they are guests at the BBC Coburg (jumpball at 4 p.m., HUK Arena, live stream on the Internet).

After the narrow defeat against Munich, the Kangaroos want to get back on the road to success as quickly as possible with the farm team of the first division club Brose Bamberg. Coach Emanuel Richter: “The defeat in the derby against Bayern was hard to digest. On Sunday, however, an even tougher opponent awaits us. We have to play a perfect game and minimize turnover if we want to beat the favorites from Coburg. Among their ranks are very experienced players such as veteran Spanish playmaker Jose Joaquin Carrasco. The team is very well coached and has important talents who also play in the ranks of Bamberg in the BBL,” said Richter.

These double license players in coach Jessica Miller’s team are Tyreese Blunt (20/190), Leon Bulic (21/210) and Jannis Sonnefeld (20/207). With Adrian Petkovic, Lucas Wobst and above all Sven Lorber, who the BG still knows from the old regional league days at Breitengüssbach, there are other top-class players in the team.

Mental coach is confident

The BBC is currently in fourth place in the table, but with a win the Kangaroos could overtake Upper Franconia again. BG General Manager and mental coach Wayne Chico Pittman: “Coburg is not a classic farm team like the other BBL youth teams, but also has established players on the team. In addition, an excellent environment with a great hall and many spectators. We’re looking forward to this away game. After Bayern’s defeat, we’ve done a lot of mental work this week and are ready for the trip to northern Bavaria,” says Pittman, looking ahead with confidence.

In terms of personnel, there are no changes to the team from last week. However, the convalescent Nino Tomic, Marc Kaufeld and Marco Hack-Vazquez should now return to play in a timely manner. (asan)
