Women’s Eurocup: Marine Johannès saves ASVEL in San Sebastian

On the fourth day of the Eurocup on Wednesday evening, ASVEL – like Lattes-Montpellier and Angers – scored another success.

After its defeat in Lattes-Montpellier, ASVEL had to score points for the rest of the competition. David Gautier’s team, still without Gabby Williams, Sandrine Gruda and Julie Allemand, took a step towards qualifying for the next round in San Sebastian. Despite three passages to +11 in the meeting, she needed an extension (61-61).

Already sparkling in the third quarter, Marine Johannes took matters into her own hands in the extra time to validate a success by the smallest of margins (70-71). The French international finished with 23 points at 9/17 on shots (including 3/8 at 3-points), 9 rebounds, 4 assists but 7 loss of balls for 23 evaluation in 39 minutes. Hit in the ankle on Sunday in the league, Alexia Chartereau added 13 points and 6 rebounds in… 41 minutes!

Lattes-Montpellier still undefeated

Lattes-Montpellier is still ahead of ASVEL in the Group K standings. The Gazelles are still undefeated after their fine collective performance (54-30 at the break, 84-72 final score) against the Czechs of Zabiny Brno. Six players finish at eleven or more evaluation, including Migna Touré (15 points, 4 assists).

In the Franco-French shock of the week, Angers extinguished the Flames Carolo in the second half (84-63) to win a third victory in four games. Without Leïla Lacan, the US duo Alexis Peterson – Jasmine Bailey scored 46 points alone, or half of the Angevin points. The two teams are now tied at the top of Group L.

Fifth and last French club in the running this Wednesday evening, Roche Vendée suffered a new setback on the Sassari floor (77-65). Reduced, the girls of Manu Body conceded their third defeat in four games. They are last in Group J, in which Villeneuve d’Ascq will face London this Thursday evening.
