WC football | Empty buses criss-cross Doha. Drivers are training not to get lost with Messi

Driving her daughter to school for the past few weeks, she passed hundreds of buses each morning. It might not be so strange if the buses weren’t empty. That is, only the drivers sat in them. “They train from the hotels to the stadiums and back. So that they can drive it. So that they don’t get lost when they take, for example, Messi or Ronaldo to a match. Qatar is really doing its best to prepare,” Zuzana points out.

Every Friday during the last weeks, he prefers not to drive into the city. Reason? “Police officers train to divert traffic. They are trying street closures and so on,” explains Češka. She and her family are already among the natives whose daily life has been affected by the football championship since the beginning of November.

“They shortened the children’s school. Instead of until half past three, they only have until twelve. So a little after noon there is an apocalypse on the roads,” laughs Zuzana. In addition, the government ordered the home office during the World Cup to ease traffic due to the expected rush of fans.

“The offices will only work from seven to eleven. Then there will be no local people on the roads. And the children’s holidays begin with the start of the tournament and will last until the new year. So maybe we’ll pack up and go on vacation,” says Zuzana.

According to her, the championship will be spectacular. Qataris are said to be very hospitable and accommodating people. Fans will love it in Qatar, the cities are spectacularly lit up. “It will probably be a bit strange for Europeans at a time when their energy costs have increased many times. In Qatar, however, he shines as best he can now. Even the highway to the north, where there is almost nothing, is illuminated,” Zuzana smiles.
