Young Indian badminton player Anwesha Gowda has withdrawn from the 2022 Australian Open women’s singles after losing to 2018 Youth Olympic Games champion Goh Jin Wei of Malaysia in the second round here on Wednesday.

Anwesha, 14, lost 7-21, 13-21 to her main opponent in just 28 minutes at the State Sports Center here.

The Indian commuter was pushed back from the start and entered the first break behind 2-11. Two-time world junior champion Goh Jin Wei continued to dominate Anwesha after the break and took a 1-0 lead. Despite Anwesha’s best efforts in the second match, she failed to match Goh’s intensity and eventually lost the match in consecutive matches.

Earlier in the first round, Gowda, world No. 8 in the world junior badminton rankings, beat 20-year-old Australian Pitchaya Elysia Viravong 21-9, 21-11.
