The universe of archery in Stroncone: the opening ceremony of the 3D World Cup

The opening ceremony of the 10th 3D Archery World Championship which saw the parade of over 300 competing archers representing the 28 participating nations. The Azzurri are ready: tomorrow the match starts with qualifying. On Friday the team finals at Prati di Stroncone and on Saturday the individual finals at the Carsulae Archaeological Park. The 3D archery specialty has 4 divisions (compound bow, barebow, instinctive bow, longbow) and foresees as targets three-dimensional shapes located along paths immersed in nature, positioned on slopes and at unknown distances. The one that will take place between Terni, Stroncone and Carsulae is the tenth edition of this world championship, and it is the second hosted in Umbria after that of 2015.

THE OPENING CEREMONY – There are 320 registered archers who paraded today in Prati di Stroncone, a few kilometers from Terni, representing the 28 participating nations. The ceremony took place at the Archery Village, the tensile structure that represents the beating heart of the world championship, from where the three competition routes unfold set up by the organizing committee, which relies on the experience of the Archers of the City of Terni, the which has already organized other international and national events in this area and which, also on this occasion, obtained the patronage of the Umbria Region, the Municipalities of Terni and Stroncone, as well as the Archaeological Park of Carsulae.

As for the official opening of the world championship, after the parade of all the national teams present, there were interventions by the authorities. First of all those of the “landlords”: the mayor of Stroncone, Giuseppe Malvetani and, representing the Municipality of Terni, the councilor for urban planning Federico Cini. Then the president of the Organizing Committee, Stefano Tombesi, intervened and, as per protocol, the oath of Berry Brophy representing the Competition Judges and the blue Irene Franchini, representing the athletes, followed by the greeting of the Vice President Vicar World Archery and President Fitarco, Mario Scarzella, who declared the championship officially open, leaving room for the notes of Mameli’s anthem.

In the afternoon the athletes instead took to the field to carry out the official practice shots.

THE AZZURRI IN THE COMPETITION
– As mentioned, overall 28 nations are represented in Umbria, with Italy and the United States bringing the largest number of athletes to the courses: 24 in total. These are the participating nations: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, Poland , Slovenia, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Uruguay and the USA.

Yesterday, Saturday 3 September, the Italian delegation arrived and today, after the opening ceremony, they carried out the official practice shooting. The Technical Director Giorgio Botto, assisted by the technicians Daniele Bellotti and Vincenzo Scaramuzza, has summoned to the compound Giuseppe Marco Abagnale (Arcieri Del Dahu), Marco Bruno (Arcieri Iuvenilia), Jesse Sut (Kosmos Rovereto), Elisa Baldo (Arcieri Decumanus Maximus), Irene Franchini (Fiamme Azzurre) and Maddalena Marcaccini (Sagitta Arcieri Pesaro).

As for the barebow (barebow, according to the international wording) the summoned are Alessandro Rigamonti (Archers of the Bergamasca Orobici Island), Matteo Seghetta (Arcieri Barbacane Città della Pieve) and Giuseppe Seimandi (Fiamme Azzurre) fresh from the World Games where Cinzia Noziglia (Fiamme Oro) also competed, winner of the gold medal and owner of the world championship in Umbria together with Luciana Pennacchi (Arcieri Città di Pescia) and Eleonora Strobbe (Arcieri Altopiano Pinè).

For the instinctive bow division (traditional bow, according to the international wording) will be competing Nicola Kos (Archers City of Terni), Fabio Pittaluga (Genoese Archers Association), Fedele Soria (Archers City of Pescia), Michela Donati (Sagitta Archers Pesaro) , Daniela Marsetti (Arcieri Stella Alpina Valtellina) and Sabrina Vannini (Arcieri Città di Terni). Finally the longbow which will see the Azzurri Alfredo Dondi (Le Frecce di Santa Margherita), Giuliano Faletti (Arcieri Delle Alpi), Marco Pontremolesi (Arcieri Fivizzano), Giulia Barbaro (Arcieri I Gatti), Iuana Bassi (Arcieri Tigullio) and Cecilia at the start Santacroce (Ypsilon Arco Club).

THE PROGRAM – Tomorrow, Monday 5 September, the start of the races with the first qualifying round, while the second day of qualifying will take place on Tuesday. The first medals will be awarded on Wednesday, those of the mixed team with finals for gold and bronze scheduled for the morning. Thursday will be a long day entirely dedicated to the elimination matches of the individual which will decide the semi-finalists. The teams will take to the field on Friday at the Prati di Stroncone: in the morning for the elimination rounds and then the challenges on 4 pitches that award the medals. On Saturday, the last day of the competition, the caravan of participants will move to the splendid scenery of the Carsulae Archaeological Park, where the semi-finals and individual finals will be played.

WEB AND TV – The event will be followed with news, social posts and photographs published daily by Fitarco and World Archery. The Organizing Committee will make the images of Saturday’s finals available to the International Federation. A summary of the individual finals held in Carsulae will be broadcast on Rai Sport in the days following the race.
