Abensberg.The International Judo Masters in Bremen is a renowned tournament with starters from 16 countries. In the U21s, Kevin Abeltshauser from TSV Abensberg was able to make a strong showing with silver and Michael Weber with bronze.

Abeltshauser fought his way into the final of the juniors in the weight class up to 73 kg with four victories against judoka from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Great Britain. Only there did he have to admit defeat to the British Luke Davies.

In the weight class up to 100kg, the Offenstettener Weber got off to a good start with successes against a Czech and a Dutchman. After a semi-final defeat against Lars Vissers from the Netherlands, Weber Tages secured bronze.

After an initial loss of up to 60kg, Ben Howard had to make his way through the consolation round. Here he defeated two Germans and one Dutchman one after the other before he had to bow to a Swiss in the entry for the bronze medal. This left him a seventh place. Max Felde started in the U18s. At first he defeated opponents from Germany and the Netherlands up to 66 kg. His run of success ended in the main round.

TSV was also represented at the German university championships by Bundesliga fighters Nikolas Menzl (up to 73 kg) and Simon Schwertl (heavyweight). In a field of 65 athletes, Menzl, who is studying at the University of Regensburg, fought a marathon tournament of seven fights and only lost in the semifinals after carelessness against Sebastian Hofäcker from the University of Hanover. In the fight for bronze, he pushed Vincent Wienecke from the DSHS Cologne to his back after just 15 seconds with a low shoulder throw. With two wins and two losses, Schwertl finished seventh.
