This is how the red and black archers have begun their search for qualification for the next national tournaments.

“We are in the Fourth National Ranking, qualifying for the National Games, where for the first time we brought two goalkeepers, one is Julián Muñoz, in a wheelchair, and the second is Felipe Mora, with an arm amputation, having an outstanding participation his first tournament. With Muñoz we achieved a fourth place and with Mora a third place, keeping the bronze medal”, said the coach of the North team, Diego Vásquez.

Clear objectives

Vásquez pointed out that for the national competitions he brought seven archers, with whom he hopes to obtain the quotas for the 2023 National Games, in this first qualifier. According to the coach, the second and last will be in March.

“We attended with seven athletes in conventional, seeking with them the box to the National Games, they are two archers in the female compound modality, two in male, two in male recurve and one in male recurve,” said Vásquez.

In conventional female compound, the experienced Karime Tarazona and Merilyn Navas stand out, in male compound, Mauricio Ardila.

In women’s recurve they participate with Sara Tibaquirá and Geraldine Romero, while in men Sebastián García and Andrés Silva compete.

As Diego Vásquez has reiterated, the main objective is to qualify for the Coffee Region Games with a good team to fight for the medals in both modalities.

“We want to try to complete the men’s compound team, with the goalkeeper, depending on the (technical) evolution it has between now and the National Games. In the same way, lead complete teams in the other modality, but we have to see the results that they achieve and according to that, we will choose the best to go to next year’s Games”, Vásquez pointed out.

The coach recalled that the second qualifier is scheduled for mid-March 2023.

The National Games of the Coffee Region will be held from November 12 to 23 and the Paranationals will take place from December 2 to 10.

“We want to classify all the athletes, some could not come because they are in the development process, which allows us to have a couple more months to prepare them and take them to the next national qualifying ranking,” said the red and black coach.
