Nine Argentines ready for WALA 2022

Nine Argentine players will participate in the second edition of the Women’s Amateur Latin America that will take place this week, between Thursday and Sunday. They are Mercedes Aldana, Ela Anacona, María Cabanillas, Malena Castro, Magdalena Domine, Laura Edmonds, Isabel Laulhe, Julieta Oviedo and Valentina Rossi.

Rossi and Anacona are two of the most experienced Argentine players in the order of international competitions. The first of both, works at Michigan State University and was third in the last edition of WALA. At the age of 21, Rossi stood out in the 2021 US Women’s Amateur, reaching a place in the Semifinals of the most important amateur championship in the world.

For his part, Anacona plays and studies at the University of Arkansas. She stands out for her triumph in the 2017 South American Youth Championship, she was runner-up in the ANNIKA Invitational Latin America in 2016, 2017 and 2018. It will be her second participation in the Women’s Amateur Latin America. In the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 she was the Silver Medal in teams.

At the level of the players who compete in our country, María Cabanillas, who emerged from Chapelco Golf in the Province of Neuquén, has accumulated 11 victories that took her to the 275th position in the World Amateur Ranking and this year the victory she achieved in the Liechtenstein Open, international level event. In the previous season, she was crowned the winner of the Argentine Ranking of Amateurs, winning the Triple Crown of National Championships.

The competition will take place at Pilar GC, within the framework of various social activities such as the ribbon-cutting of the new headquarters of the Argentine Golf Association and the delivery of the AAG Award, which is awarded every two years to outstanding personalities from our sport.

The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation are the organizers of the contest. The WALA 2022 winner will play alongside the stars of women’s professional golf from around the world in three Majors next year: The Chevron Championship from April 20-23 at The Club at Carlton Woods, United States, The Amundi Evian Championship from April 27 to July 30 at the Evian Resort Golf Club, France, and the AIG Women’s Open that will take place from August 10 to 13 at Walton Heath Golf Club, England.
