In the seventh match of the tournament, the Latvian national team lost to Slovenia with a score of 5:8, the match ended after nine ends.

On Friday, the Latvians will start the “play-off” tournament and fight for a ticket to the highest division.

“A game of unused opportunities. We built the whole game towards the end of the big points, but our performance did not allow us to take the necessary points. The opponent managed to escape and take advantage of their opportunities,” the Latvian Curling Association (LKA) quotes team coach Kārļas Smilgas as saying.

It has already been reported that in the previous group matches, Latvia defeated the teams of Portugal and the Netherlands (10:8 and 7:6), recognized the superiority of the French 4:6 in the extra end on Sunday, beat Hungary 12:5 on Monday and Belgium 9:2 on Tuesday, and on Wednesday – with 12:7 Austria.

With five wins in seven games, the Latvian national team took third place in its group.

The best three teams from each group will qualify for the play-off round. The winners of the first places of both groups will automatically go to the semi-final game, while the other national teams will determine the other two semi-finalists in one match, when the second team of one group meets the third team of the other group. Both finalists will secure the right for their country to compete in the A division of next year’s European Championship.

Latvian men’s national team: Mārtiņš Trukšāns (skip), Jānis Klīve, Arnis Veidemanis, Sandris Buholcs, Aivars Avotiņš and coach Kārlis Smilga.
