DBorn in Tattendorf, he was one of the best-known local footballers in the 1980s and 1990s. Until the end he ran a tennis hall in Traiskirchen.

Shocking news spread like wildfire on Thursday morning. The former professional soccer player and tennis hall operator Gerhard Rodax died at the age of only 57. Born in Tattendorf (Baden district), he was a top performer at Admira/Wacker in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In 1990 he scored a goal against the USA at the World Cup. Austria won 2-1. To date, it is the ÖFB team’s last win at a World Cup finals. The offensive player then switched to Atletico Madrid and later also played for Rapid Vienna.

During his active career he ran a tennis hall in the Traiskirchner sports center and managed it to the end. After his football career, his entire sporting passion belonged to tennis. In a NÖN interview this summer, Rodax said: “If I go running for an hour, I’m bored. If I play tennis for an hour, I say it’s a shame that it’s already over.”
